The folks running this for Google ran the first cable isp. I doubt they
have any lack of understanding of the issues of running an ISP or
initial uptake in new markets. This is probably trimming excess staff
and consolidating investment rates to more reasonable levels. Also
serves to give them more "pull" (pun intended) with cities they are
interested in entering. When someone wants you and cant have you they
are willing to do more to get you...

All the facts really say is that it's not as easy as they thought. I
think almost anybody who ever started an ISP found out it wasn't as easy
as they thought, and that plans don't survive contact with reality.

That number they report is meaningless.
I bet their take in Provo is very high.
Also, it just doesn’t take a lot of employees to run fiber once it’s
installed correctly.
The layoff may not actually be indicative of anything other than the
job is done and now they maintain.
I call BS on this article.
