Had a big lecture at a college I was attending by Dr J Allen Hynik. He was the
science advisor to the film.

I came to the lecture in an “altered state of consciousness” and part way
through had to excuse myself due to “dizziness and nausea”...

(The real story is much worse and something that haunts my dreams. Standing up
and running out of a whole basketball arena full of people only to stop on my
way out to toss my cookies... The girl I was hitting on was not impressed, I
think she had some laundry issues due to this incident. Certainly in the
bottom 5 of my lifetime “not-so-shining-moments”)

Wrong state, and wrong mountain. I'm amazed that you remembered the year. The
movie was "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", the state was Wyoming, and the
mountain was The Devil's Tower.

I saw that same mountain in a movie back in about 1977... a guy built a
replica out of mashed potatoes.

  Alamo Mountain.
We didn't go higher up where lots of these drawings are because my wife's
knee started to ache. She beat them up as marathoner years ago.
