Yes, there is a new method of Sync-Over-Power for precisely the reasons you guys have highlighted (i.e. increased consumption on the 450m). This method is being used for 450m (and is supported also by 450i).
The CMM5 supports this method of sync-over-power. We are pursuing IEEE-1588v2 as a roadmap feature on the 450i and 450m as well.
