They killed the draft right before I turned draft age.  What a relief.  
In my mind the late 70s were pretty ideal.  Good music, girls.....   oh 
man.....  STDs were more of a bother than life threatening...   Had a brand new 
Z28 Camaro.  Ronald Reagan was making headway with the USSR.

Interest rates were high though, I had certificates of deposit earning 
something like 14%.

The people who want to make America great again, I’m unclear on exactly when 
that was?   Usually the assumption is around 50 years ago, but All In The 
Family was set in the 60’s, and it seems that Archie Bunker had the exact same 
gripes then.

 

Obviously there were no SFPs then, so what is the missing ingredient?  Glenn 
Miller?  That would be around 1940.

 

I will tell you that I turned draft age in 1968, and there were some 
not-so-great things about the 60’s.  My kids however assume that was before 
sex, drugs and rock&roll, apparently they have not seen any Austin Powers 
movies.
