If you have an imaginary number, then your voltage is too low for the system to
work.

So here's where my formula breaks down:

If Vin^2 < 4*Pload*Rcable, then you end up with a negative number you need to
take a square root of.... Somehow I don't think an imaginary number is what
we're looking for.

I wonder if for instance solving for the total current might solve this
problem, then you could use the current to determine the voltage drop. I
haven't even started to look at whether this is any simpler or ends up with a
non-contiguous function or not.

I think you would agree, this is not as simple as it first appears....

Calculated values, from 16 to 24, using 6.24 as the power, 8 ohms, and 16
through 24 volts in. This is using my formula:

  11.75233261
  13.22546294
  14.57494395
  15.85059052
  17.07672241
  18.26723889
  19.43089556
  20.57358804
  21.69948452

  (SQRT(Vin*Vin-4*Pload*Rcable)+Vin)/2

This is an SM with and without an 8 ohm series resistance.
This data was after boot up.
I came down from 24 volts when testing with the 8 ohm because it will not
boot with the resistor until you get up to about 18 volts due to high current
during booting.

Am late for a company dinner celebrating the 10 anniversary of one of our
employees.
So will analyze tomorrow to see if it matches my quadratic equation.
