Linkedin basic (free) membership is all you need. It is extremely useful especially in my line of work (sales). And it is quickly becoming the primary tool to connect job seekers with hiring professionals and recruiters. Definitely worth your time to set up and maintain a your profile and start connecting with colleagues. But the added benefit of the paid-for premium membership is minimal and not worth the cost.
