ZFS and some of the other more recent additions do offer some tasty features, 
along with HBA’s, but there’s much wider support, deeper toolset and more 
documentation for the average person to get RAID 6 working than some of the new 
cluster stuff. 

Yes, it’s cool, yes, it works and scales, etc., but for the average person on 
vanilla inexpensive common hardware, RAID has been stable and usable for a very 
long time and would basically work on any hardware with vanilla OS support, and 
you get pretty reasonable performance. Also, it’d be easier to get help if bad 
things happened.

There may also be an issue with a power/data cable, but the aging 
firmware/hardware issue will still be an issue at some point in the future when 
the gear is harder to get.
