Many of us go back to something like 2002. First it was part-15, then the
infamous “I QUIT” message, then a short time on a WISPA server until they
decided they owned the list and the list automagically became totally
independent. Like Forrest said, many of us have met in person many times.
Much of it was at the AnimalFarm show which ran on its own for about 8 years
and has since joined up with WispAmerica.

We still have the best of the best when it comes to technical expertise and
experience.

We all I think agree we got out of hand around the election and thereafter.
Shouldn't have let it get as out of hand as it did.

As Chuck mentioned, there are lots of noise-free lists out there. And only
this one which is noise-permitted. I see this list as more of the 'we're all
friends here' list. Most of us have been around for a long time, we know each
other, recognize each other in person, and yes, like to bounce/discuss non-wisp
things off of each other.

That said, after last year, we all seem to be definitely more mindful of
letting things get too far out of control on any topic. Once things seem to
have run their course usually someone invokes lent, and we move on.

If you want a list totally devoid of any off-topic discussions, then this may
not be the list for you. If instead, you're ok with becoming friends with a
community of wisps who like sharing ideas and thoughts not only on WISP topics,
but on a little of everything else, then stick around.

It just occurred to me a good way to describe this list vs the others,
comparing it to an industry trade show. Most of the other lists are more like
the conference/trade show itself. Lots of dry technical content. This list
is more like the informal social gatherings afterward... lots of WISP related
topics, but also a lot of discussion about other things which go on. Like any
of the social gatherings, sometimes it is denominated by tech talk. And
sometimes it's dominated by non-tech talk. But overall it's an enjoyable time
for those who enjoy that type of socialization.

Is it possible to create another list to discuss OT stuff, like afmug-alt or
some such? It would focus this list and give others a place to vent.
