Culture and globalisation

As regards culture, Africa is known to be rich in culture. Each culture has
its own personality; the fact that we are all humans does not mean that we
are all the same. Culture is learned and such learning does not take place
through natural inheritance. It is not genetically transmitted but rather
takes place by a process of absorption from social environment or through
deliberate instructions.

No culture is possible without a language; therefore if you want to kill a
culture, first kill the language. Globalisation has affected our culture by
first killing local languages and promoting foreign languages as the global
language. No wonder even when you are in Rwanda, you may find that meeting
are conducted in English and French, reports are written in English/French,
and some countries like Uganda use English as a national and official
language. Thanks to AU and the International Conference on Great Lakes
Regions which are advocating for the promotion of Kiswahili as the African
official language. People's behaviour has been affected in different ways.
