Beijing Invites Volunteers Fluent in African Languages

Organizers of next year’s Beijing Olympics have rolled out a red
carpet for those who are fluent in African languages.

Leaving no stone unturned in its preparation for the quadrennial
event, the organizers are ensuring that communication does not become
a problem and they have launched an appeal for volunteers who are
fluent in African languages.

Zhang Yong, an official with the organizing committee’s linguistic
services division, said "What we need most is African languages. In
the same country you can have one language which is only spoken by
about 10 people, so it’s difficult to find volunteers."

According to reports, Beijing would need around 1200 volunteers who
can speak 40 different languages and this is no surprise because
thousands of participants from nearly 200 countries would gather in
the Chinese capital next year for the sporting extravaganza.

Apart from African language speakers, those who are fluent in European
languages like Norwegian and Czech are also in demand in Beijing.
