I can't speak directly about it but from a citizen point of view and my humble opinion, there are unfortunately too much politics everywhere even within technical AND scientific communities ; at least in some areas in Africa. Hopefully one day, people will keep politics where it should stay and focus on the core of their job/teaching/research and feel free to talk about it. >[...] > This means that IPv6 adoption is pushed by SME and eventually executed > by telcos. My impression from the US was that IPv6 adoption is driven by > enterprises and users follow. $DAYJOB is the only organization using IPv6 in Cameroon and Chad on a daily basis since 2 years. $DAYJOB is a small organization. IT Team convinced its manager to request from telcos IPv6 and succeed. I'm not proud to be the only one. Some years ago when I suscribe to various mailing-lists , I read many people on pro and cons regarding IPv6. I decided to assess myself and my organization. My conclusion was that IPv6 was a necessity and it was somehow 'easier' to manage at least for my context. We knew our telcos were able to deploy IPv6. It was 'just' a matter of sending a formal request and less than 1 month later, it was working. Many issues are not on a technical side first. It's about people *willing* to deploy the 6th version of IP :) > So to come back to my original question, I am wondering how innovation > in general and in particular with IPv6 is driven in Africa? Is Afrinic > the main driver or is it more (small?) businesses moving forward? Not sure if it's specific to Africa but from my humble opinion it is a combination of various factors which will drive towards IPv6 deployment. People are looking for leaders and incentives. It is all about leaders able to drive community in the right way. If a 'respectable' and 'appreciated' person lead the way, many will follow. my 2 XAF :) -- Willy Manga @ongolaboy https://ongola.blogspot.com/
