Menurut mantan Ketua Bidang Organisasi PSSI Tondo Widodo, kekalahan Nurdin Halid tersebut sudah dapat ditebak. Masalahnya, menurut catatan Tondo, Nurdin Halid bahkan sudah kalah di level Asia Tenggara. "Awalnya kan pencalonan bertahap, nah di tingkat ASEAN saja sudah tidak tercalonkan," terang Tondo saat dihubungi detikSport. "Eh kemudian Nurdin disuruh mewakili Indonesia, disuruh fight di tingkat Asia. Di AFF saja nggak terpilih gimana di Asia," cetusnya. Jika memang sudah peta kekuatan sudah terbaca sebelumnya, kenapa Nurdin Halid tetap ngotot maju? "Lho sampeyan baru tahu dia ngototan?" tukas Tondo balik bertanya. "Dia akan pakai cara apa pun untuk sampai ke tujuannya. Untung itu di luar negeri, kalau di Indonesia dia bisa macam-macam," paparnya di ujung sambungan telepon. Dengan kegagalan Nurdin Halid tersebut Indonesia pun tidak lagi memunyai wakil di Exco AFC yang salah satu keuntungannya adalah memiliki andil dalam menentukan keputusan-keputusan AFC. Kegagalan tersebut, imbuh Tondo, juga menjadi gambaran bagaimana citra Nurdin dan PSSI. "Itu menunjukkan sendiri gimana kredibilitasnya di internasional. Itu kan posisi prestise, untuk pribadi yg menempati dan negaranya," lugas Tondo.
