It can't be "recognizing a joke", what is a joke? ......... I once seen 2, one was a man not knowing anything about his wife and then when asked about his truck he knew incredibly lots about it, the other was a hitchhiker getting a ride and driver saying I'm not afraid because the odds of 2 serial killers in this vehicle are highly unlikely! ......... But those should not be funny one bit, laughing is meaningless and only shares information like I'm happy or I'm kind or I like you or ya right you idiot or wow that was easy or... It's like a facial expression or more appropriately more like words on paper simply. As for what is good, well, food, sex, money, cars, AGI, these are "positive" as you'd call it, so why do jokes seem to trigger the happy mode and not just be a normal "digest read"? Maybe we see something that is so wrong and unnoticed. Certainly, those 2 jokes above aren't very useful for any problem solving you'll do today, so they should not make you laugh. We all know jokes are scientifically useless for any job you could be solving!
Ok I read an article, so jokes make you laugh if one party wins at others/own expense, tension built up is dissolved, or is unexpected. All 3 of these are about a bad thing being solved with good insight. “I have an Epi-Pen. My friend gave it to me as he was dying. It seemed very important to him that I have it.” This made me LOL. Why? It's so common that we know what this is for. Yet he was dumb enough to not know what it was for. So, unexpectedness and self humiliation dosed with the correct answer to relieve the wrong of it.
