No you don't. You only need to model it in humans so you can predict human
behavior. Then you program a robot to carry out those predictions in real
time and you have AGI.

Without it, it is not going to adapt and truly learn.

I have written plenty of learning algorithms without positive reinforcement
of the act of learning.

But I can see how this kind of meta learning could be useful. Like the way
humans set artificial goals for themselves and feel good about achieving
them. Evolution only cares about how many offspring you have, but
motivation to play and learn skills makes you more likely to survive and
have more.

I don't think this is a trait we want in machines that are supposed to
serve us. The goal is not runaway reproduction.
