I thought the video on higher dimensional hyperspheres was very interesting. I can't believe I watched the whole thing.
But not so much the papers trying to explain consciousness as hyper bits or whatever. Why is it so difficult to explain a phenomenon that we can't detect by any physical instruments as something other than an illusion that increases reproductive fitness? Whatever you think it is, you don't want to lose it by dying. It's a feeling. We think we are rational, but that's only because we make up reasons to explain our emotion driven actions. What else do you need to know? Which brings me back to the original topic. I made a bit of progress in my small language model, compressing enwik9 to 135 MB in 50 minutes using 5 GB memory. I did this as a test of my idea of removing high frequency tokens from short term memory sooner. Before I build a dictionary to count and weight tokens, I made a small change to remove spaces after the first position in the token queue and other punctuation after the fourth. And the test worked. Of course, writing my own code is a lot more work than having AI write it for me. It's not just that I don't trust the code (like 96% of developers). But even if I did, it would defeat the purpose, which is to learn how AI works. We already know that the Turing test is the best test we have for consciousness, and that all you need to pass it is text prediction.
