There are levels to this issue that must not be conflated.

Perhaps the most important level is the legitimacy of institutions making
decisions that affect our lives without our informed consent.  Their
argument is that they possess the knowledge to override our consent for the
greater good.

Then there is the level concerning the legitimacy of how those
consent-violating decisions are made.

You have argued that data-driven macrosocial dynamical models are
ineffective.

How can we trust these authorities with the power they wield over us if
they are just another bunch of people like ourselves?
