I like your analogy of belief systems as packages. My specific point, though, was that some of these belief systems actually constitute non-biological life forms. They even have reproductive systems ("evangelism", etc.). These are belief systems which manipulate whatever package management system we humans have built into our hardware to further their own reproductive ends. If we make an artificial mind similar enough to our own, then it may itself be susceptible to some of these manipulations and be infected. On the other hand, if we make them dissimilar enough, say by building in a strong enough bias for fact checking through evidential validation, we may end up with a situation similar to that between Windows and Linux: one is constantly being hacked and infected, while the other is (relatively) immune, possibly because the system is more robust, but if for no other reason, because the parasite is optimized towards the more widely available host.
