Traditionally machines have been built to be strong where humans are weak - so 
as a team
they perform well together.  There hasn't been much point in competing against 
humans
where they are strong - since you can usually hire a human to do that work less 
expensively.

I think this means that the first intelligent machines are likely to be 
big-data munching
giants - not anything much like a human.
