Well the good part is that brain related computer work is getting half a billion in funding. The bad part, is that it's a mostly hopeless project with no historically useful results. Similar to simulating birds at a micromolecular level in order to make a flying machine.
However I think the EU picked it, as it attempts to incorporate the work of many thousands of scientists, so they feel like the money is being spread out more evenly. Anyways, it doesn't really affect AGI much. Most AGI projects support input, processing and output, making actual agents capable of doing something, which Markram's project doesn't even seem to aspire to (as it's a pure simulation, with no use other than integrating various research). I'm also working on an integrative project, to integrate knowledge, especially text based information. It's aim is to be useful to larger audience than the English language internet. Though at this point pouring money into it wont really help with progress much. *shrugs* Good find though, kudos.
