The OpenCog Google Group is fully operational... [email protected] The OpenCog game-character project is still in development mode and not really useful for game-development yet... However, if anyone wants to help with the R&D, a tutorial for setting up the system is here:
http://wiki.opencog.org/w/Beijing_AGI_Summer_School_Tutorial As to why we chose Unity3D for a game engine for this project, it was mainly done with ease of development in mind, with ease of rolling out real game applications (once the tech is more mature) another major consideration. We considered various OSS game engines but none of them were as slick to develop for as Unity, nor as accepted in the game-dev community.... It may be this was the wrong decision (I'm not sure) , but at this point we have a pretty good Unity framework for Minecraft-like worlds, communicating w OpenCog, so revisiting that decision and redoing this work in an OSS game engine would seem an unwise expenditure of our efforts currently... Note that while Unity development can't be done on Linux (till Unity releases their promised Linux version), OpenCog game-AI dev could be done on Linux using the current OpenCog Unity3D game world, using the Unity3D Linux *player* ...
