The program would not know what it had no knowledge of.  I have to assume
that you are thinking that if an AGI program was capable of examining
pictures then it would be able to answer the question.  If that kind of AGI
program never saw a comparative picture of a mouse and a cat (and it did
not have some stepped comparison that it could use) it would not be able to
answer the question either.   I think the argument of whether multiple IO
media is necessary for AGI is a little like the old argument of whether an
AI program is capable of free-will.  It is an interesting question which a
programmer who wants to write an AGI program should consider, but if a
programmer cannot solve the apparent dilemma then he is not going to be
capable of writing an AGI program.  The same thing is true with the
apparent embodiment dilemma.  It is worthwhile to think about it, but if a
programmer is not able to grasp the essence of what a program does and move
beyond the question then he not going to be able to master the AGI problem
well enough to take the next step.

A text-based AI program would be able to handle a simple question based on
other statements and relations to statements that it could use to relate to
the question.
