Yes - "present-day computers are orders of magnitude too slow to do
anything useful" as the computational architecture for an AGI, at least any
that most of this on this list can afford.  If you had a million dollars
worth of computing hardware, and the deep dish expertise necessary to
program it well, you could do some pretty interesting experiments --
nothing approaching a human brain in total AGI capacity, but a machine
capable of some very cool stuff.
