Redgroat finds emself on a road leading through a hamlet known as Knifford, a quiet place surrounded by farmland and forests. The buildings that he can see are an inn, a mill, and a schoolhouse, as well as a couple of people's houses. Redgroat then spontaneously ceases to exist.
