Hangspivak
Based on the game usually called Hangman. I'm picturing multiple rounds,
with some number of players (the ones who are the slowest to lock in the
correct answer as their guess) eliminated each round.
Round Robin Roshambo
Every participant plays one head-to-head game of rock-paper-scissors-lizard-
Spock against each other participant, in a prespecified but secret order.
Each participant has a a limited supply of each of the five moves, which e
selects at the beginning of the game (e.g., if you have 7 opponents, someone
might choose 3x rock, and 1x of each of the rest; someone else might choose
7x Spock). There is a delay between rounds to allow each participant to
chose eir next move.
Initially this is pretty similar to regular rock-paper-scissors, but over
time you have a narrower and narrower list of future opponents, and their
options (and yours) are likewise narrowing.
Scamming Horse Race (shamelessly stolen from the show The Genius)
I had mentioned this one on Discord a while back, but I'm re-copying the
quick summary here: horses move along a track according to die rolls. The
rolls are done in advance and initially kept secret. Players individually
receive private clues about the outcome. Each round, a roll is revealed for
each horse, and players publicly bet on which horses will end up in first
and second. There are limits to how much players can bet each round, and
horses too close to the finish cannot be bet on at all.
Another proto-tournament: everybody wins.
