The gamecode for all games and engine code for 1 to 3 is available. I doubt that the engine code for Quake 4 is out yet, as it's based on DooM3's engine which is very new and is currently making id Software considerably more rich :-). I'm surprised people are so keen on Quake 3 -- I agree it could be a good next step (though I still wish Unreal was Open Source). Many games are still powered by it's engine and are doing well. It will probably make a good impression as has been stated. I think that using DooM3, if possible, would be good but as it's not Open Source all the effort could be wasted if the devs stop supporting it (id Software are fantastic and usually do open old engines but the timescale could be looooooong).
