Hey, Could any of you modders make it easier to navigate some of these weird maps? Sometimes it's just hard to know where the passages run, and unless you know which way to go, you're screwed. I have completed both e1m1 and e1m2, but with difficulty. In e1m1, you have to go through the water to get to your next goal, but if you keep going north south east or west you'll probably not get there. The solution is to go west by northwest and south by southeast--go back and forth, left and right when you're oriented that way and you'll find the lift. I wonder what could be done... First, what I would do is pan the wall scraping sound so that you hear exactly where it's coming from--so if it's in front and to the left, you turn right about two clicks. I don't know what else could be done--I've played with detection ranges and that's helped a bit, but really they are already optimally set. I guess the blind community hasn't really had to deal with this problem yet--that of eight directions instead of four. Another thing that would help me out is if the corner warnings were changed. Instead of the way they are, how about a ping about three steps down the new passage? No confusing double blip, just a steady ping that lasts long enough for you to get oriented. Also, more of the shootable buttons and so on need labeling--you can sometimes hear that there are buttons but you don't always know what to do. In fact, there is a bridge in e1m2 that I never find because its shootable buttons are so quiet--but the shootable doors in e1m1 work well enough. Also, I think I'd like to be able to switch back and forth from hearing walls to spaces--I mean, I know when I'm against a wall already so I hit a key and boom--space opens up around me and I kinda know where to go... Man, you who have been working on this game have done some fine work--outstanding. I remember Accessible Quake and how inaccessible it was compared to how it is now--so please keep up the good work--and who knows--maybe, once I'm done with school, I'll take up modding too. In the meantime, imagine playing in coop mode or team mode--and actually playing an entire episode together! In fact, I just might set up an e1m1 server soon so I can teach anyone interested how to get around. It's not too hard--the trickiest part of the whole thing is the water and getting out--and there's a secret door there too that "opens elsewhere," and I still haven't figured out how to open it--maybe we can get some sighted help?
