Chip, first off, a big HELLO to you! -And nice to have you on the
list!!!

As far as me being the person to ask, well, there are quite a few
people here who can help you out! <smile> The two developers
responsible for Audio Quake are Matthew and Sebby (abv) -and there is
at least one other coder on the list as well... between the four of
us, as well as the many players / server admins here also, I'm sure
others will be chiming in to answer any questions you might have.

Let me just start by saying that Quake is probably the most popular
FPS (first person shooter) on the web. It's been around since 96 and
has had several generations / spinoffs by now... It was the first
internet multiplayer game to use true 3D modeling technology to render
elements in virtual space...

it uses real physics maths to generate a dynamic 3D environment
where one can move around and interact in real time. Add to this the
ability to see and interact with others via the internet and with
Audio quake, have that be accessible to the VI community. Eek! what
a horrible sentence! lol! Please excuse me, am doing a bit of the
sleepy girl thing! <smile>

   *yawn*

Anyway, A FPS game is one where you simply move about a map and
sort of do the laser tag thing, scoring frags (kills) on your
opponents, be they automated monsters, bots, which are simulated
players, or actual human players...

My personal interest in Quake came not from being a gamer, (which
I'm not) but from a developer friend of mine who was sighted and
happened to work on quake and World of War Craft. She found it on
line and wanted to see what it was about. I found it amazing in the
sense that a 3D world could be rendered so well, sonically, so that
one could actually not only move around within it, but also interact
with others in it... So I see many other applications for this
technology in addition to the obvious, of being able to make
mainstream multiplayer games accessible...

Okay, <smile> I suppose I'll sign off for now and check back in
witchyall when I'm a bit more awake! lol!

I hope this made sense and gives you a bit of insight into quake...
<smile>

Have a wonderful night and catch ya on the flip!...

Smiles,

Cara :)
