Thanks very much for your email, feedback and offer of help. The issues you discuss, possibly surprisingly, are related. The current challenges are as follows. 1. We had to fork a copy of the engine to get our work done as the developers, though previously allowing our patches in, disappeared for some time (then we did, due to serious IRL problems at the time). As a result, our code, though we've kept the footprint as small as possible, would be easy, but time-consuming, to update to the latest ZQuake (or other) engine. 2. We'd need to update to the latest ZQuake engine to make it work on MacOS (assuming there even is an x86 port of ZQuake for the Mac). 3. I have a PowerBook (note: not MacBook) and also am a student so I have no money to buy an iMac. 4. If we update the engine we'll upset our vital patch for Windows -- the vidnull patch. This is required to stop screen readers from dying when we try to run the 3D bits. We had to (extremely) painstakingly scrub out all the calls to OpenGL. It was soul-destroying. Newer engines just may provide such thing as a null-renderer (QuakeForge seems like a promising candidate and may run on OS X (as it runs on Unix) if X11 and SDL were installed on the OS X box. Now, it could be that times have moved on and Windows AT has finally grown up to the point where the whole system won't die when we try to legitimately use OpenGL but there will still be a lot of people out there that have older systems. 5. I am desperately trying to work on other areas of the project due to pressures from work. This means that currently I have little time. This is a shame, because in the right hands we could all take this project so much further. I am trying to think of any ``creative'' ways 'round this that we may be able to find, of course. Suggestions welcome! In the meantime I will continue doing what I can and updating the developer documentation to reflect the move to Launchpad. I hope that in the not too distant future we'll be able to take you up on your offer of help, though! best regards, -- Matthew Tylee Atkinson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> _______________________________________________ AGRIP-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.agrip.org.uk/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/agrip-discuss
