The launcher reads configuration values from an INI file (start.ini).

OS X has a flexible "say" program that can read data from a pipe.  You 
might get around to learning how it works ...  (It's almost like Apple 
knew AGRIP would get around to supporting OS X eventually ... :-) )

I must think hard about a MacBook for my next portable box.  I suspect I 
could use one, especially because it means I can run practically any OS I 
want on it whenever I want to.  The only downside is the price when 
compared to other Intel boxes that won't run OS X.
