Hey Mark, long time no hear. Just thought I'd chime in on why
downloads don't happen from servers when they're supposed to. The
problem isn't the server, it's in the client, at least that is so in
the latest version, and it's at the engine level. Older versions of AQ
work because the mauth stuff wasn't yet added. I can't explain it all
the way, not being a programmer by any stretch, but I looked in the
source code for zquake from the launchpad site and found reference to
the download problem. Appearently the mauth protocol was or is going
to use a checksum to validate the authenticity of a user when a server
is using master server and such and the protocol is working.
Unfortunately while experimenting with this the checksumming for file
downloading was broken somehow. I may have to be corrected on this
however, but that's what I deduced from what I looked at.
That's why Andre's version connects just fine.
Also while I'm at it, I may as well clarafy one more thing for you
Kris: if you're using an older version of AQ and you run maps made
with LDL, and you get errors, it's because the last version of AQ was
released to fix the bugs that LDL introduced.
Anyway... that's enough rambling for now, I'll chime in again later...
Cheereo!
