Well... You say you've unziped the .zip into the ./zquake directory. I think this is wrong, as the .zip simply contains the .pak and such files... and those have to go in .zquake/id1/ At least, you're lucky this appears to work, because personnally I'd to install a specific 32bits execution emulator, otherwhise the program simply told it couldn't be launched... Oh and by the way, once you've placed pak0 and pak1.pak in .zquake/id1 , check they are readable for everyone (chmod).

About mod.cfg, I don't understand... Why do you modify it ? I mean, if you play from a client machine, this file won't be executed... Oh and a last one thing, you'd remove the setmaster instruction from server.cfg . I'm almost certain this doesn't work and even, can cause problems later.
