Such approaches have been tried e.g. by

Issue 259, 1 (2004) of the J. Radioanalytical Nucl. Chem was in particular
about source identification of pollution. E.g.,

- Frontasyeva et al.: Atmospheric deposition of heavy metals in N Serbia
etc., pp. 141-147 : in this article the authors try to relate Cl and V
pollution found in moss samples to the 1999 war.
- Ermakova et al.: Air pollution studies in central Russia etc.,  pp. 51-58
