We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher with a strong background in spatial statistics to work on an exciting new project in collaboration with the University of Nottingham. The research is funded by the BBSRC. The objective is to understand how genetic variability in wheat is expressed below ground, specifically with respect to the dynamics of soil structure.
The researcher at BGS will be responsible for developing methods to characterize the structure of the soil from X-ray computerized tomography scans of soil with a growing crop. He or she will need to come up with novel methods of analysis to quantify the effects of root activity on soil structure, and to distinguish the effects of crop varieties with contrasting rooting habits. The work will be done in a broader team, and will involve collaboration with plant scientists, microbiologists and soil physicists. For more information please contact Murray Lark (details below).
