I think the version I'm using was compiled with prelink and that is part of the 
problem... Because it's using prelink, there's a problem with mtimes and ctimes 
getting updated on key directories (listed in the first e-mail of this chain), 
unless the prelink processing is disabled. I'm not sure what the advantages and 
disadvantages of using prelink with AIDE are (I presume slightly faster 
start-up times and perhaps slightly faster processing generally), but I might 
consider compiling a version WITHOUT prelink. That would probably allow us to 
reenable prelink and run AIDE without causing a conflict.

Aide does support prelinking, although it needs to be enabled during the
build process:

   configure --help
   [...]
   --with-prelink          use prelink (no checking)


As far as I can tell it was available in version 0.14.
