Why scary? It's just like you will say "I will not use MySQL because there is SQL injection, and it's scary." Users should do exactly the same things as they do in php (or other language). It's just like with meta programming not everybody will use it but language that have one is better language. Check Python or Ruby they are really flexible, and allow to do really strange things. Ruby allow to modify existing classes, this may break user code if the code you're using modify some class, so you can extend exiting classes like Array, with is pretty cool. JavaScript have this feature too.
