the css doesn't get updated is true but I don't understand what you mean that it affect the url field. it's untouched after the widget name change and everything else beside calling the old widget name as ID in the css should just work please test again and report in more details about the broken links problem

This can affect everything from widgets not displaying (url fields), improper styling (css div calls and class overrides), to broken links in the content. It's hard to know you've accounted for everything & only becomes harder as a site is more complex.
