Interesting ideas. But actually, OpenType is still a one style per file
format, as far as I can tell.

ACaslonPro-BoldItalic.otf
ACaslonPro-Italic.otf
ACaslonPro-Regular.otf
ACaslonPro-Semibold.otf
ACaslonPro-SemiboldItalic.otf

OpenType does group together more glyphs than ttf though. Previously,
you could have several font files for one style: one with the latin
glyphs, one with the expert glyphs (small caps etc.), one with the
cyrillic glyphs, and so on. These are consolidated into one standardized
font file with OT.
