Interesting ideas. But actually, OpenType is still a one style per file format, as far as I can tell.
ACaslonPro-Bold.otf ACaslonPro-BoldItalic.otf ACaslonPro-Italic.otf ACaslonPro-Regular.otf ACaslonPro-Semibold.otf ACaslonPro-SemiboldItalic.otf OpenType does group together more glyphs than ttf though. Previously, you could have several font files for one style: one with the latin glyphs, one with the expert glyphs (small caps etc.), one with the cyrillic glyphs, and so on.
