Yes, it seems to be a combination of bug and usergroup setup, imo. I was saying to try setting the field to |true thinking that would prevent the default value of 0 from being set, since it's equivalent to 'not set'. This happens for add forms, I know, but I was unsure of how edit forms would handle that markup.
