You have been subscribed to a public bug by Jan Groenewald (jan-aims): Binary package hint: gnome-terminal
Typing a space character within gnome-terminal followed by any command hides the command in history. No command starting with a space is shown within "history" and .bash_history. This is only the case on ubuntu, other distribution with same version of gnome-terminal don't hide the commands in history. This doesn't apply to remote logins with gnome-terminal from and to this machine. Only local users using gnome-terminal are getting this behaviour.
