The Oracle DBA is responsible for the implementation and support of
enterprise-wide databases. This position will require expert knowledge
in database (Oracle) design, tuning, modeling, backup and recovery
methods in multiple computing environments (Unix, Windows).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs capacity planning; performance monitoring and tuning;
backup/recovery techniques; and problem determination and resolution.
Provides ongoing maintenance and support.
Management of data replication processes.
Oracle installation, upgrades, patches, and downgrades.
Database cloning. Database creation and tuning including software disk
device usage and tablespace configurations.
SQL performance tuning, cost based optimization, and optimizer hints.
Significant experience with SQL*Loader and shell programming.
Determines structural and storage requirements for the
development of databases. through systems analysis and design to
ensure the most efficient customer database.
Ensures database security by establishing data access rights.
Provides support to programmer analysts for database
applications through problem determination and analysis to ensure
proper use of application technologies against the database.
Will carry a pager and be available 24x7 to provide production
support and resolve problems, as well as work unscheduled hours in the
evenings and on weekends on special projects. Extended hours may be
required to accommodate special requirements.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
Minimum five years' experience as a production DBA.
Oracle 10g experience is necessary.
Strong design and architecture skills
Programming background very helpful
Working knowledge of relational theory
Thorough understanding of all database processes, utilities,
and functions associated with the Oracle database.
