We have an immediate need for a Business Intelligence Report Developer for
the metro Detroit, MI area who has skills as a Cognos developer.
JOB DESCRIPTION
*PRIMARY OBJECTIVE*
Responsible for developing reports, dashboards, framework manager
configurations and cubes on the new Cognos BI platform. Will be a source of
expertise for analyzing and understanding business user reporting needs and
creating reports or other BI artifacts that fulfill those needs in a formal,
manageable process.
*DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
*1. Provide BI Tool specific knowledge (Cognos) to the organization
Understand data modeling constraints and methods of
optimization for Cognos
Understand and render conceptual models to the analytic engine
of Cognos
Work closely with the Business Intelligence Tool Specialist and
Enterprise Data Architect and Database Administrators to ensure optimum
performance of the Cognos BI reporting system
*2. Design and develop in the Cognos BI toolset
Capture reporting requirements via interviews with the business
user or users that made the request
Document reporting requirements in a standard format
Analyze reporting requirements to generate design documentation
relevant to the Cognos BI toolset
Create BI artifacts (i.e. reports, alerts, visualizations,
dashboards, cubes, etc.) that satisfy reporting requirements
Work with business users to refine/adapt/maintain BI artifacts
as business user needs change or the data environment changes
Work closely with the Business Intelligence Tool Specialist and
Enterprise Data Architect to extend the operational data store and/or
multidimensional model when necessary to meet new business needs
Work closely with data stewards to validate data dictionaries
and other metadata for reporting data sources
4. Ability to clearly understand business user point of view and
communicate the nature of any gaps in the multidimensional model to the
Business Intelligence Tool Specialist and Enterprise Data Architect
5. Ability to assist the Business Intelligence Tool Specialist in
preparing and conducting Cognos end-user training to all levels of ability
in order to maximize the knowledge transfer of the BI tool to staff
throughout the organization.
6. Perform other related duties as assigned.
*REQUIREMENTS*
*B. Experience*
*Two (2) + years of experience as a Cognos developer*
*Business analyst experience relevant to requirements gathering, analysis
and design functions preferred*
*BI developer experience in other toolsets relevant to analysis and
high-level design functions will also be considered*
*Track record of successful implementations and innovative reporting
development with highly satisfied business users*
*C..Abilities*
Ability to understand business requirements, translate them into report
designs while dealing with complexities of integration of complex data and
business concepts and put it all together so it can be organized and easily
reportable into business intelligence that end-users will easily understand
and derive actionable value from.
Technical knowledge, analytical skill, reliability and initiative required
to implement quality reporting systems and deliver timely and well organized
data intelligence to the user community at large (internal and external.)
Ability to collect and prepare data for written and/or oral presentations
communicating effectively with all levels of data processing and user
management
*D. Knowledge*
Knowledge of Information Services policies, procedures and functions
Knowledge of Healthcare data and business practices and processes in order
to provide appropriate and accurate levels of data intelligence to the
business community
A high level of human relation skills in order to be effective in working
with people of varied skills, backgrounds, and personalities at various
levels throughout the organization.
