As per sourceforge's recommendations, I've started using client-side Spam filtering.. Gmail's seems to do a decent job.
However, I tend to think the forums are a better place to communicate. The only problem (which may or may not be an issue) is that you have to be a sourceforge member in order to view and post to them. While that's not a big deal for people currently active on the list, it might inhibit new members... then again, loads of Spam doesn't help. I don't really have an answer, just my thoughts.
