Hi Asuntha
as far as i remember each time when a executor connects to manager after an
error it is given a fresh ID ( even it has been given a ID before) ... but
previous id is also in the Database.
what happens is, when console gets all the information regarding executors from
database and show them:
some of them will be displayed as gray since executors are known to be not
live ( actually they may be live but uses a different ID).
( i came across the same scenario when i was doing my final year project using
alchemi 1.4)
guys, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't know for certain.
As far as I know, what actually happens is similar to c.) in your list.
When the service is stopped, the thread stops immediately. But, the
"heartbeat" from the executor to the manager also stops, which informs the
manager that the thread wasn't completed and it then finds another executor
to use.
Is it a hack? Are there better ways to do it?... maybe. But it works, it's
transparent, and the bandwidth cost is nil.

Hi all,
I installed Alchime Manager in 1 machine and executors in 2 more
machines....I am
able to start Manager and executors and can even connect the executors to the
manager from executor GUI...
The main problem I came across is that I cannot run the 'Alchemi Console'
Properly.
When we run the Alchemi Console it says "No connection available". and when
i try to
create a new Alchemi grid connection with the following parameters. (IP-
localhost, port -9000, username - user, password - user) it creates a
Console Root
but when i click the "users" folder it give a error message as follows:
"Could not get list of groups. Error:Server ecountered an internal error. for
more information
turn on customer errors in the server's config log "
At the same time time, even though the exectuters are connected to the
manager they are shown in GREY (in the alchemi console).
Someone please help me in this regard
Thanks
Cheers
Salinee

Hello,
Sounds like it might be a firewall problem to me.
What's your network topology look like?
Ok, you have 3 sets of computers:
Executors: They need to be able to connect to the Manager on port 9000
Managers: In addition to being open inbound on port 9000, they need to be
able to connect to the Executors on port 9001 (or whichever one you have set
in the configuration file, 9001 is the default)
Users: They need to be able to connect to the Manager on port 9000.
After you start the Alchemi Executors, they should show up in the Console as
red, not grey. Check in the logfiles on the Executors to see what they say
(C:\Program Files\Alchemi\Executor\dat\)
Also see if there is any more information in the Manager log files
(C:\Program Files\Alchemi\Manager\dat\)
I encountered a similar problem to this last week and it turned out to be a
bug with how the hostnames of the Executors are stored in the Manager's
database. What are the full hostnames of the 2 Executors, the Manager, and
the User? (You can change the names to protect the innocent :) )
Let us know, hopefully we can get this figured out.
