Hi there Michael,
It's good to see that you are keen to keep going with alchemi. The
release structure is not very good for the moment but the mechanisms
are being put in place to get something really good going. If only the
devs had more time... In the future there will be stable branch
releases that are maintained with dev work going into its proper
place, i.e., another branch. I have been following alchemi for a long
time but have only just started contributing stuff, but as soon as my
paid work lets up a bit plan to get really involved.
Work on another release will start very soon, and this time it will be
stable! Until now the X part of the 1.0.X releases were experimental
instead of being bugfixes. That didn't go down well (with me at
least!), and proper stable structures are being put in place.
In terms of your desire to go with asp.net... I can only suggest that
you use, as a "pretty much functional" base, our very own XPManager.
Yip, that's good ol' ASP. If you are going to go with asp then you are
going to need to dig into IIS. That's M$ for ya. You don't have a
choice. There are plans for a java or mono port but I wouldn't hold
your breath...
I too would rather an emerge (or a yum, since I don't have the time
for emerge these days) but there you have it.
If you have any specific problems then I am more than happy to help
you along with them. Nowadays I work with asp.net (ok, for the last
two months, amongst java stuff), and our company has a webservice
interface that *seriously* needs an overhaul... so I am all keen to
work out any problems that the XPManager has.
And welcome to Alchemi!
Cheers
Anton
