Alchemi has some issues with how it detects and recovers from errors.
In particular, the following error situation (among possibly others) will
still cause an executor to show up as "red" in the console, even though it
should be "grey":
1) Manager is started successfully
2) Executor connects to Manager on port 9000
3) Manager tries to connect to Executor on port 9001, but fails because
either a) DNS lookup of executor fails b) There is a firewall blocking port
9001 inbound to executor c) Some other network-related reason
I've personally experienced a) and b).
The log files are saying that the manager cannot connect to the two
executors (the ones that aren't running on the manager).
Try this:
1) On the Manager computer, open up a command line (Start>Run cmd)
2) Start the Manager
3) Start the Executor on, let's say executor1
4) On the command line type
telnet executor1 9001
If this opens up with a blank screen, type a few characters and it should
spit back some gibberish like
.NET☺☻☻♥☺♥☺☺hServer encountered an internal error. To get more info turn
on
customErrors in the server's config file.t
Connection to host lost.
This means that the manager can contact executor1 on port 9001
successfully. If not, then we've found the problem -- either the DNS lookup
is failing or port 9001 is not open.
Let me know what this turns up.

hi Matt,
You know
I don't think that the manager can't see the executor
because i can use remote desktop from Manager computer to Executor
computer (to see %CPU)
About the executor name: In Alchemi console, i can see 2
different-(computer)name executors one from manager computer and another
from remote, again 2 executors are red (not gray - disable),
So the name-cause is not reasonable, right?
About the .... post either on mail-list/forum: I've just joined the
mailist recently(over one month) so It's very kind of you to send me the
link or forward that email again
Thanks

Hey Anh,
I just took a quick peek at it (gotta get to class here) but there is a
System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No such host is known
showing up.
Try to ping the executors from the manager and see if that works.
Also, there is a bug in the manager/executor code where only the computer
name of the executor is stored in the database, not the whole FQDN. So if
an executor is named executor1.domain.edu , then only "executor1" is
stored in the database. This may be what's causing you problems. You can
get around this by putting an entry in C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Sorry so brief -- let me know and I can explain this more, or I think
there was a post either on the forum or in the email lists about this kind
of thing a few months ago.
So it appears to be a networking issue where the manager can't find out
who the executors are.
Let me know what you find out
