The cylinder with a button is the fuel shut of switch - in case of accident!
And, yes, the engine will run without the airbox. Why are you thinking about
tearing the SPICA out?

Hi folks    Before i rip out the spica on my 78 California spider i thought
i
would try to get it running first ,two questions  will it run without the
air
box, two what is the cylindrical grey plastic assy on the passenger side
firewall in the engine bay it seems to have a button on the top with an up
or
down postion.  thanks john
