Hi Al:
On the intake side the shims are on the thin side
with one shim calculated to be around 0.042", less
than what's available.
It sounds like you've checked the valve lashes with the head on the bench,
or at least without the normal loads on it. Torque it down and check the
lashes again. I'll guarantee you they'll be different, and with some luck,
this may no longer be an issue for you.
