Will,
You should be able to adjust the triangle bracket that it is attached to
a bit, you'll have to loosen 3 or 4 bolts to do it. Also if the long
arm piece that bolts on to the back of the pump moved a little this can
be difficult, that is held on by the lower alternator bolt, if the alt
bolt is not ultra tight you should be able to move that arm up a bit by
whacking it lightly with a deadblow hammer or something might give you a
little more play.

Half a mile into a canyon run with a bunch of Fiat guys, the Milano
shredded and spit off its water pump/alternator belt, which I didn't
notice until I'd dropped all but a cup or so of coolant... anyway, a
couple of days later a friend and I replaced the belt, not a
particularly easy task especially when you're racing the sunset.
It was all pretty straightforward, despite the deeply inadequate
information to be gleaned from the factory manual, except when it came
to the steering pump belt. The only way we could find to get that belt
off was eventually to remove the pump from its mountings completely,
as there seemed no combination of loosening screws by which the front
of the pump could be adjusted; the back end can slide up and down on
its bracket, but the front is firmly located in place. No slots or
nothin', just holes where the screws go. It looked like it was going
to go back on badly cocked to one side, but when we tightened the
screws down it wound up more or less straight. Trouble is, the belt is
now extremely tight, with no deflection at all when you press down on
it. Surely there has to be some sort of adjustment possible, but we
couldn't find it. Did we miss something?
