After dusting off my xml. Predefined entities in xml "quot, amp, apos, lt, gt". The hyphen '-' or 'endash' is not a defined in XML but is defined for XHTML. You must either add <!ENTITY ndash "-"> in general.ent or just use a hypen in the copyright date span. Either way I am happy.
