The wipe effect is one of the most functional animation effects for slide
objects. Currently, there is one "Wipe" effect, which is a "wipe up" effect. As
far as I can see, there is no possibility to have a wipe down, wipe left, wipe
right or even wipe diagonal effects.

Wipe effects do allow for very functional animation (not just animation "for the
show"), for example in having an arrow appear: an arrow to the right is very
effectively presented with a "wipe right" effect. Elements of for example an
organigram would appear most effectively with a wipe down effect when they are
located downwards the current element, or a wipe right if they are added to the
right of the current object. An interpolation on an xy diagram could very
effectively and didactically be presented using (starting from the x-axis) a
"wipe up" of a vertical line, followed by a "wipe left" of an arrow to the left.

The current version of Impress has all the tools to realize this - except for
the wipe animation effects. As I illustrated, the wipe effect allows for
functonal, didactic effects, and therefore is more important and usefull than
many other "flashy" effects. As there is a "Wipe up" effect, it should not be
unrealistic to implement also other wipe effects.

Current animation features of Impress would also allow to have a
